Award Description
The first New Dimensions Virtual Reality (VR) projects from Kenya, Senegal and Ghana are now on the festival circuit. Each of these works offer a view of the vibrant, diverse and ever-changing cultural landscape of contemporary Africa.
You do not need to have any experience with VR but we are looking for established artists and filmmakers in their field. We are also really interested in working with artists from diverse fields: documentary and fiction film, theatre, performance & visual arts, fashion, photography, writing, design and game development.
Note, your ideas must be non-fiction but we welcome a range of approaches: 360 film, animation, interactive, hybrid etc. Artists must apply with between 1 and 3 non-fiction VR ideas. If selected, you will workshop your ideas in Cape Town over 5 days with international advisors and VR experts. The workshop will cover idea development as well as practical instruction in 360 filmmaking and interactive VR.

Eligibility Criteria
- Applications are open to all individuals who are citizens or permanent residents of an African country and who currently reside on the African continent.
- Applicants must also be accomplished in an artistic field. We are open to a range of disciplines: documentary and fiction film, theatre, performance & visual arts, fashion, photography, writing, design and game development.
- Your Virtual Reality (VR) project ideas must be non-fiction but we welcome different approaches to creative documentary: 360 film, animation, interactive, hybrid.
- All applications must be in English and participants must have a workable knowledge of English since the workshops will only be conducted in English.
Programme Benefits
Participants will receive flights, local transportation, accommodation, meals, visa costs and per diems.
Following the workshop we will work with the selected artists to secure funding to further develop and produce their projects. Electric South reserves the right not to develop projects further.

July 24th to 28th.
