Value of Scholarship
Studentships will fund an annual tax-free stipend of £16,000 plus payment of Home/EU tuition fees. Some subject areas will extend the funding to cover full Overseas tuition fees and, where applicable, this will be indicated within the subject area and/or project concerned.
Eligibility Criteria
All applications are assessed on an individual basis and in some cases the University may require students to meet higher entry requirements than the minimums outlined below. MPhil/PhD applicants should normally have:
- A minimum classification of 2.1 in their first degree or equivalent
- And preferably a Masters degree (or Masters degree pending)
- Applicants whose secondary level education has not been conducted in the medium of English should also demonstrate evidence of appropriate English language proficiency.
How to Apply
University uses the national online applications system, UKPASS for all research degree applications. To make application for an MPhil/PhD please work through the following steps:
- Check that student meet the entry criteria
- Check that the Faculty can provide supervision in their research area. If they have not done so yet, please review the research areas. They will be asked to confirm this in their UKPASS application form.
- Consider funding options – are there any Studentship or Scholarships available to the student or will they have to be applying as a self-funded student?
- What documents students will be required to upload with their UKPASS application:
a) Research proposal of between 2,000 and 3,500 words (four to seven pages) in length.
b) Scanned copies of all your relevant qualification certificates and transcripts (if your award is pending, please upload the transcript of the modules already undertaken).
c) If secondary level education has not been conducted in the medium of English, you should also demonstrate evidence of appropriate English language proficiency, for example, IELTS or TOEFL certificates.
d) 2 academic references.
