According to media reports, 22 students have graduated with first class degree from the Katsina based Al-Qalam University-The first Islamic University in Nigeria.
Vice chancellor of the Varsity, Prof Shehu Ado Garki disclosed this during a pre-convocation press conference.
Garki gave a breakdown of the graduands to include 400 who bagged second class upper degrees and over 500 others who graduated with second class lower across different departments from the varsity.
The Varsity’s Pro Chancellor, Sani Zangon Daura said “so far, 1,678 students have graduated from the institution from 2009-2015” stressing that the Varsity’s academic staff strength has grown from 56 at inception to 187.
Daura who insisted that the institution’s rise has been exponential said “from humble beginning of four programs, the university has now grown to 22 programs”.
He said the varsity depends on individuals and charitable organisation and, public spirited persons to survive and listed dearth of funds as one of its numerous challenges.
