AKSU Suspends SUG President Elijah Ekanem Over Misconduct Allegations

Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) has suspended its Students' Union Government (SUG) President, Elijah Ekanem, over allegations of misconduct. The suspension, which took effect immediately, was announced by the Dean of Students' Affairs, Dr. Dominic Ekpo.

Reasons for the Suspension

According to the suspension letter, Ekanem was disciplined for two main infractions:

• Forceful collection of a car key from the driver assigned to his office
• Providing false information against constituted authorities

The university noted that several attempts, both verbal and written, to caution the student leader proved unsuccessful, leading to the disciplinary action in accordance with the Students' Handbook.

What Happens Next

Following the suspension:

• Ekanem must appear before the Students' Disciplinary Committee for further investigation
• The SUG Vice President will assume the role of Acting President pending the outcome of the investigation
• Copies of the suspension notice have been sent to the Acting Vice Chancellor, Registrar, and Chief Security Officer
