Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Education Announces School Closure and Second Term Resumption

The Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Education has released an official press release announcing the closure date for first term and resumption date for second term for all public and private schools in the state for the 2025/2026 academic session.

Official School Calendar

• First Term Closure: Friday, December 12, 2025
• Holiday Period: Monday, December 15, 2025 through Friday, January 2, 2026
• Second Term Resumption: Monday, January 5, 2026

Who Must Comply

The directive applies to:

• All public primary schools in Akwa Ibom State
• All public secondary schools in Akwa Ibom State
• All public technical schools in Akwa Ibom State
• All private primary schools in Akwa Ibom State
• All private secondary schools in Akwa Ibom State
• All private technical schools in Akwa Ibom State

According to the ministry statement: "All Public and Private Primary, Secondary and Technical Schools are directed to comply accordingly."

Holiday Period Activities

What Closes (Dec 12)

From Friday, December 12, 2025:

• All classroom teaching and learning activities
• School administrative services
• Regular school attendance requirements
• Extra-curricular programs and activities

Holiday Duration

• Approximately 3 weeks: December 15, 2025 - January 2, 2026
• Covers Christmas and New Year celebrations
• Allows students and staff time for family and rest

For School Administrators

School principals and heads must:

• Close first term activities by December 12, 2025
• Ensure all student records are properly filed
• Complete first term assessments and reports
• Prepare for second term resumption on January 5
• Communicate schedule to parents and students
• Maintain essential security during holiday period

For Parents and Guardians

• Pick up your children from school on December 12 or shortly after
• Review first term progress: Collect report cards and discuss performance
• Plan holiday activities: Ensure constructive use of break time
• Prepare for resumption: Purchase second term materials and supplies
• Return children punctually: Ensure attendance from January 5, 2026

For Students
