2 min read

Summary

ATBU engineering and environmental technology students must submit SIWES II acceptance letters by July 7, 2025. Complete guide to registration and requirements.

Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) has released crucial information for engineering and environmental technology students preparing for their SIWES II (Students' Industrial Work Experience Scheme) program. The Industrial Training and Coordinating Unit (ITCU) has outlined specific requirements and a strict deadline that all eligible students must meet.

Who Should Take Note?

This notice applies to students in the following faculties who are due to complete SIWES II:

  • Faculty of Engineering and Engineering Technology
  • Faculty of Environmental Technology

Required Steps for SIWES II

1. Complete Your Registration

Log in to the normal ATBU Registration Portal and complete your registration process. This is your first step before proceeding with SIWES-specific requirements.

2. Print Your Industrial Training Letter

After gaining portal access, visit siwes.atbu.edu.ng to print your official I.T. placement letter. This letter will serve as your introduction to the placement organization.

3. Submit to Your Placement Organization

Take your printed I.T. letter to your assigned placement organization and formally submit it to begin the placement process.

4. Obtain and Submit Acceptance Letter

Once your placement organization accepts you, obtain their acceptance letter and submit it to the ITCU by Monday, July 7, 2025. This is a hard deadline with serious consequences for non-compliance.

Understanding ATBU's SIWES Program

The SIWES program at ATBU is designed to provide practical, hands-on experience that complements your classroom learning. It consists of two phases:

  • SIWES I: 8-10 weeks at the end of Second Year, Second Semester
  • SIWES II: 6 months at the beginning of Fourth Year, Second Semester

Why SIWES Matters

According to the ITCU, "SIWES provides invaluable practical experience, bridging the gap between Theoretical Knowledge and Real-World Application." This industrial training is not just a graduation requirement—it's an opportunity to:

  • Apply classroom theories in real engineering environments
  • Develop professional skills and workplace competencies
  • Build industry connections for future career opportunities
  • Gain hands-on experience with modern equipment and processes

Important Deadline

July 7, 2025 is the final date for submission of acceptance letters. Students who fail to meet this deadline will face penalties. Don't risk your academic progress—complete all requirements promptly.
