Latest: BUK Expels 63 Students, Rusticates 13 Others For Misconduct
The Bayero University, Kano has expelled 63 students and rusticated 13 others for one year for their involvement in various forms of examination misconduct.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Director, Examination, Admissions and Records, Amina Umar-Abdullahi and issued to newsmen in Kano on Friday.
According to her, the action followed a recommendation earlier submitted by the Senate Committee on Examinations Misconduct and Leakages approved on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2019, at the 374th meeting of the highest decision making body of the institution.
She said the expelled students included 10 from the School of Postgraduate Studies, 10 from the School of Continuing Education and seven each from the Faculties of Basic Medical Sciences and Computer Science.
“However, the Faculties of Education and Management Sciences have six each and Engineering, FEES and Physical Sciences four and three, respectively.
“The Faculty of Arts and Islamic Studies has two expelled students and Faculties of Communication, Allied Health Sciences and Life Sciences have the least number of affected candidates with only one student each.”
She said the Senate had equally directed that 19 other students be served with warning letters for other infractions.

Earlier: BUK Expels 24 Students Over Falsification of Entry Qualification
The management of Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has expelled a total number of twenty-four (24) students from the University for falsification of their entry qualifications. Their expulsion was approved by the Senate of the University at its 374th meeting held on Wednesday, 31st July, 2019.
Equally, six (6) others were withdrawn from the University for allegedly presenting fake results from their institutions while another student of B. Sc Mass Communication was withdrawn for presenting a cancelled NECO result. However, prior to their appearance before the Committee, the statement said the six students had been earlier withdrawn on poor academic performance and/or absence throughout the examinations, without cogent reasons.
A statement signed by the Director, Examinations, Admissions and Records (DEAR), Amina Umar Abdullahi, said their expulsion followed a report submitted by the Senate Committee on Entry Qualification Irregularities and deliberated upon.
It categorically stated that the action of the expelled students contravenes category 3.6 and 3.8(a) respectively of the General Examinations and Academic Regulations (GEAR).
In the same vein, other eighteen students would be re-invited to appear before the Senate Committee on Entry Qualification Irregularities for fair hearing, the statement added.
A breakdown of the expelled students indicates that Faculty of Education had the highest figure of 10 and was followed by the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences with 9. The Faculties of Law, Agriculture, Science, Engineering and Arts and Islamic Studies had one candidate each.
The Committee, however, advised the management of the university to thoroughly check subsequent admissions so as not to re-admit the expelled students into the University with such fake results.
