The Bayero University Kano (BUK) is set to honour philanthropist and entrepreneur, Tony Onyemaechi Elumelu, first female Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Folake Solanke and Senator Bello Hayatu Gwarzo with honorary doctorate degrees for their immense contributions to human development at the University’s forthcoming 35th Convocation.
“The University Senate and Governing Council have decided to honour four individuals during this year’s convocation. Emeritus professorship will be conferred on Professor Abdulkadir Dangambo who retired from the services of the University (after serving meritoriously for 37 years), but who has continued to serve the University through teaching, research and supervision of postgraduate students,” said the Vice Chancellor.
According to him, the awardees were selected based on merit after passing through credibility screening and assessment. He pointed out that those to be awarded the honorary degrees are the first female lawyer to become a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and a social critic, Dr. Folake Solanke, who will be conferred with Doctor of Laws (LLD); Senator Bello Hayatu Gwarzo, a politician and philanthropist will also be conferred with Honorary Doctor of Laws (LLD), Honoris Causa, while a business tycoon, philanthropist, and banker, Mr. Tony Elumelu, will be awarded Honorary Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) Honoris Causa.
