Eid-ul-Mawlid 2026: FG Declares August 25 Public Holiday

The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, 25 August 2026 a public holiday to mark Eid-ul-Mawlid, the commemoration of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad.

What the official notice says

The announcement was issued on behalf of the Federal Government by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. The ministry encouraged Nigerians to reflect on compassion, humility, service, peace and national unity during the observance.

The notice was signed by Dr Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior.

What students should do

• Check your institution's official channels for any changes to classes, examinations or administrative services scheduled for Tuesday.
• Do not assume that application, payment or assignment deadlines have moved unless the responsible institution publishes a separate notice.
• If you are travelling, completing registration or visiting a campus office, confirm opening arrangements before setting out.
