The Vice-Chancellor of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) Prof. Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele, called on students to embrace academic excellence and improve on their performance as the school management has come up with new ways to encourage academic excellence. He said that students who score a CGPA of 4 points and above in the next graduation will be awarded the sum of N1m. He also disclosed that the institution got a cash donation of N300m from Pastor David Ibiyeomie, the General Overseer of Salvation Ministry, to build a 100-room hostel. He said the project is 80% completed and will be commissioned in December this year.
While receiving the Rivers State House of Assembly Committee on Education on Wednesday, Nov. 13th led by Christian Ahiakwo, the VC disclosed that One lecturer has been dismissed, while 10 others have also been suspended from the institution over the allegation of demanding cash or sex for grades from desperate students. The details of the lecturers sanctioned by the university were however not given. The Vice-Chancellor called on the rebranding of the institution with the tag, education, deleted from its name. He said the present name tends to limit the degree and certificates awarded by the institution.
