JAMB Adopts New Admission Policy For Universities With High Number of Applicants

According to the Registrar of JAMB, Professor Dibu Ojerinde during the Combined Policy Meeting held last week, candidates of universities with surplus applicants for the Unified Matriculation Examinations (UTME) are being reassigned to other universities with lower number of candidates than their capacities.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), during the Combined Policy Meeting, adopted this new policy for admission of UTME candidates into various universities in the country.

This policy he said will be beneficial to universities with lower number of candidates than their capacities, as this will ensure that these universities will have more candidates to admit. See specifically below how the JAMB registrar stated the expected benefits of the new admission policy.

According to the notice, JAMB registrar, Professor Dibu Ojerinde stated that the new policy portends two benefits:

1) It will be beneficial to "needy Universities" that is universities with lower number of candidates than their capacities, as this will ensure that these universities will have more candidates to admit.

2) Candidates will have better chances for admission in the universities they are re-assigned to, contrary to situations where they would await admission in the universities of their first choices until the admission exercise closes and they forfeit admission in that session.

Post-UTME Eligibility Status Checking For All Institutions Is Free – JAMB

Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has denied plans to sale scratch cards to candidates who are checking for the school they are re-posted to as a result of the new admission policy instituted by the board.

According to the board's Head of Media, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the internet access is free to all candidates.

The Board explained that the National cut-off marks of 180 for universities and 150 for Polytechnics, Colleges of Education and Innovative Enterprise institutions in the 2015 UTME was a benchmark to set the tone for 2015 admission exercise.

However, Universities and other levels of tertiary institutions are at liberty to go higher, but not lower, depending on their peculiarities and the performance of candidates that choose them. Provided these cut off marks are uniformly applied to all candidates based on existing admission criteria by proprietors of these institutions.
