Astrazeneca, which is an international pharmaceutical company, awarded four researchers in Nigeria the sum of N16.3 million for the support of local medical research in areas of communicable and non-communicable diseases.
The beneficiaries are Dr Sylvester Nwokediuko, Prof. Simeon Isezuo, Dr Oshun Olayiwola, from the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Usmanu Danfodiyo University and University of Lagos, respectively.
Chairman, Scientific Review Committee (SRC), Prof Folasade Ogunsola, while speaking at the Astrazeneca’s research grant award in Lagos, said the company made an initial commitment of three years to distribute $350,000 annually to the qualifying researchers in Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa, while the study selection and grant apportionment is administered by SRC consisting of highly respected academics from various local institutions.
