Who should apply

Aspiring seafarers, cadets, mariners and students who want to begin a maritime career or gain regulatory STCW/ISPS certification.

Entry requirements

• Academic: Minimum of 5 credits in WAEC/GCE/NECO or NABTEB, including English Language and Mathematics, obtained in not more than two sittings.
• Age: Applicants must be at least 16 years old.
• Nationality: Nigerian by birth.
• JAMB: Candidates may apply with or without JAMB. The stated JAMB cut-off mark is 100.

About STCW and ISPS

STCW (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping) courses provide the basic safety and survival training required for seafarers. ISPS (International Ship and Port Facility Security) training covers maritime security awareness and responsibilities. Both are mandatory for many sea-going roles and are often prerequisites for shipboard employment.

How to apply

1. Obtain the application form from the Academy Admission Officer’s Office (in person) after payment of the non-refundable fee, or use the Academy’s official online portal.
2. Prepare and upload (or present) required documents: certified copies of WAEC/NECO/NABTEB results, birth certificate or age declaration, passport photographs, means of identification, and any other documents requested by the Admissions Office.
3. Complete any screening, interviews or assessments scheduled by the Academy.
4. Wait for the official admission offer and follow the enrollment instructions provided.

• Decide which ND course aligns with your career goal (e.g., Nautical Science for deck careers, Marine Engineering for engine department roles).
• Keep certified copies of your qualifications and identity documents ready to avoid delays.
• Budget for medical and fitness checks—many maritime roles require seafarer medical clearance.
• Ask about available practical training, internships or industry linkages that support sea-time requirements after graduation.
