Sule Lamido University Appoints Professor Nasir Faruk as New Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academics

Sule Lamido University Kafin Hausa (SLUK) has appointed Professor Nasir Faruk as its new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics). The appointment takes effect on October 21, 2025, for a two-year tenure.

About Professor Nasir Faruk

Professor Faruk is a telecommunications and information technology specialist born on April 18, 1984, in Jigawa State. His academic journey includes:

• B.Sc. Physics (First Class) - Kano University of Science and Technology (2007)
• M.Sc. Mobile and High-Speed Telecommunication Networks (Distinction) - Oxford Brookes University (2010)
• Ph.D. Electrical and Electronics Engineering - University of Ilorin (2015)

Research and Academic Achievements

Before joining SLUK, Professor Faruk served as an Associate Professor of Telecommunications at the University of Ilorin. His accomplishments include:

• Managed 46 competitive research grants from global institutions
• Published over 180 scientific papers, with more than half indexed in Web of Science and Scopus
• h-index of 30 with over 3,600 citations
• Trained over 2,000 academics in proposal writing
• Named University of Ilorin Researcher of the Year in 2018

Appointment Process

The Governing Council confirmed the appointment during its 45th Regular meeting on August 24, 2025, following Senate nomination on August 14. Professor Faruk succeeds Professor Umar Ali, whose second tenure concludes on October 20, 2025.
