About Tech-U

First Technical University (TechU), Ibadan, the first of its kind in Nigeria and in West and Central Africa, was established to expand access to University education and more importantly to address the employability gaps through entrepreneurial orientation of the average Nigerian youth.

First Technical University (Tech-U), Ibadan, has admitted the first set of students into its various accredited academic programmes. They were admitted mainly on merit.

A release made available to the public by the Media Office of the University explained that this crop of pioneering students met the premier Technical University’s advertised criteria for admission for the chosen courses. They successfully changed their first choices of institutions to Tech-U through the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB) and obtained the admission form of the University available on its (University’s) website.

It is on record that Tech-U, an initiative of the present administration in Oyo State, is the first Technical University in Nigeria and West Africa. The University is taking off with two faculties – Faculty Technology and Engineering and Faculty of Natural Sciences.

The University has a total of 15 academic programmes fully accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC) after a team of the body visited the University in July to assess its resource readiness for take-off. The accreditation and approval by NUC for take-off of academic activities coupled with the support of JAMB made it possible for the University to admit students for the 2017/2018 academic session.

Some of the NUC-accredited programmes include Mechatronics Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Food Science and Technology, Cyber Security, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Physics with Electronics, Petroleum Engineering, Industrial Chemistry, and Statistics. Additionally, the statement from the Media Office stated that academic activities, which were first slated to begin this October, had been postponed to November. The management of the University made the decision in order to give room for more applicants, particularly students who initially opted for other institutions but have now initiated the process of changing of institution to Tech-U, to complete the process. It, therefore, enjoined other prospective applicants to take advantage of the extension in the period of the ongoing admission exercise.

The University is fully ready for academic activities with first-rate teaching and experienced non-teaching staff in place to begin the first academic session. Modern classrooms fitted with air-conditioners, an expansive 500-seater e-library, and fully furnished laboratories are already in place to make learning enjoyable. Similarly, a well-secured, fully functional, and student-friendly hostel is in place to give the new students memorable learning experiences.
