University of Ibadan Establishes Nigeria's First Faculty of Physiotherapy

The University of Ibadan has established Nigeria's first Faculty of Physiotherapy after its Senate approved the transformation of the Department of Physiotherapy into a full-fledged faculty within the College of Medicine.

The Senate approved the change at its meeting on Monday, 31 August 2026. The new faculty will support teaching, research, specialist clinical training and collaboration across physiotherapy disciplines.

The official announcement says the faculty structure includes departments covering cardiorespiratory, musculoskeletal and orthopaedic, neurological, sports and recreational physiotherapy, and occupational therapy.
