UNIBEN Reschedules Matriculation and Orientation to January 2026
Summary
UNIBEN postpones matriculation to January 28, 2026 and orientation to January 26, 2026 due to pending student clearances and the festive season.
The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has announced a rescheduling of the matriculation ceremony and orientation programme for the 2025/2026 academic session. The adjustment was communicated through an official circular issued by Registrar Ademola A. Bobola on December 15, 2025.
New Dates for Matriculation and Orientation
The university administration has moved both events from December 2025 to January 2026:
- Orientation Programme: Now scheduled for Monday, January 26, 2026 (originally December 17, 2025)
- Matriculation Ceremony: Now scheduled for Wednesday, January 28, 2026 (originally December 19, 2025)
Reasons for the Rescheduling
According to the circular approved by Vice-Chancellor Professor Edoba B. Omoregie, SAN, on behalf of the Senate, two main factors necessitated the postponement:
- A substantial number of newly admitted students have not yet completed their clearance processes
- The festive period filling the remainder of 2025 makes it impractical to hold such important events
Academic Activities Continue Uninterrupted
Despite the postponement of orientation and matriculation, UNIBEN has confirmed that academic activities will proceed as planned. The 2025/2026 academic session commenced on November 10, 2025 as originally scheduled, and lectures across all departments are continuing according to the approved timetable.
Important Notice for Freshers
All newly admitted students who have not completed their clearance should do so before the rescheduled dates. The university has directed all stakeholders including Deans, Directors, staff, students, parents, and guardians to take note of this adjustment for compliance.
