UNICAL SUG Senate Suspends Three Principal Officers Pending Investigation

The Students' Union Government Senate at the University of Calabar has suspended three principal officers following allegations of misconduct. The suspension is a temporary measure pending the outcome of an investigation.

Suspended Officers

The following officers have been placed on suspension:

• Deputy Senate President: Sen. Egbegi Uchechukwu Pascaline
• Scribe of the Senate: Sen. Johnson Osaminen Abang
• Sergeant-at-Arms: Sen. Eze Chukwuebuka Stephen

Reasons for Suspension

According to the official notice dated November 12, 2024, the suspension follows allegations of gross misconduct, abuse of power, and negligence. The Senate emphasized that this action allows for a fair and transparent investigation process.

Interim Appointments

Three senators have been appointed to serve in acting capacities during the investigation:

• Sen. Emmanuel Ihuonam Goodnews - Acting Deputy Senate President
• Sen. Enyiofem Eta Eta - Acting Scribe
• High Chief Sen. Bassey Echu - Acting Sergeant-at-Arms

Official Statement

Senate President Ogar Edwin Elaunire clarified that the suspension does not imply guilt but is a procedural step to maintain the integrity of the investigation. All SUG members and students are urged to cooperate with the acting officers and the investigation committee to ensure a swift resolution.
