UNILORIN Grants 6-Week Relief for Graduates with Uncollected Certificates
The University of Ilorin has temporarily suspended late certificate collection penalties, offering graduates a six-week window to retrieve their credentials without additional charges.
In a memorandum dated April 24, 2025, Registrar Mr. Mansur Alfanla announced that the ₦3,000 weekly penalty increment would be paused from April 22 through June 2, 2025. This decision responds to appeals from graduates, parents, and alumni who missed the original January 17, 2025 collection deadline.
What This Means for Affected Graduates
Graduates who failed to collect their certificates by the January deadline had been accumulating ₦3,000 in penalties each week. As of April 22, affected individuals owed an additional ₦39,000 in late collection fees.
During the suspension period, no new penalty charges will be added. However, the university made it clear that penalty assessments will resume after June 2, 2025, meaning graduates should act quickly to avoid further charges.
How to Collect Your UNILORIN Certificate
Graduates have two options for certificate collection:
- In-person collection: Visit the university registry during official working hours with valid identification
- Courier service: Request certificate delivery through UNILORIN's approved courier service, introduced to accommodate graduates unable to visit campus
The management's decision to suspend penalties demonstrates responsiveness to graduate concerns. However, the temporary nature of this relief means timely action is essential.
Important Deadlines to Remember
- Penalty suspension ends: June 2, 2025
- Weekly ₦3,000 penalties resume: After June 2, 2025
