What Changed?

Calendar Adjustment

The university management has modified the previously announced academic calendar. While specific details of the original calendar weren't provided, students should note that the current dates represent the official revised schedule.

Why Calendars Get Adjusted

Universities adjust academic calendars for various reasons:

• Accommodation of unforeseen circumstances
• Alignment with other institutional activities
• Response to stakeholder feedback
• Ensuring adequate time for curriculum coverage
• Coordination with examination schedules

Detailed Breakdown of the Semester

Phase 1: Pre-Semester Preparation (July 2, 2025)

ETTC Meeting & Timetable Approval

ETTC (likely Examinations and Timetable Committee) will meet to:

• Finalize the semester's lecture timetables
• Approve examination schedules
• Coordinate departmental timings
• Resolve any scheduling conflicts
• Ensure all logistics are in place

Phase 2: Semester Commencement (July 7, 2025)

Resumption Day

Second semester officially begins on Monday, July 7, 2025. Students should:

• Complete course registration before or on this date
• Pay all outstanding school fees
• Obtain lecture timetables from departments
• Purchase required textbooks and materials
• Report to campus and settle into accommodation
• Attend all orientation sessions if any

Phase 3: Lecture Period (July 7 - September 27, 2025)

Duration: 12 Weeks

This is the main teaching and learning period where:

• Regular lectures, tutorials, and practicals take place
• Continuous assessment tests (CATs) are conducted
• Assignments and projects are given and submitted
• Laboratory work and field trips occur
• Seminar presentations are scheduled

Important Notes:

• Most courses require 75% attendance minimum
• Missing classes can result in being barred from exams
• CATs contribute significantly to final grades (often 30-40%)
• Don't assume you can catch up later - attend consistently

Phase 4: Examination Period (September 29 - October 25, 2025)

Duration: 4 Weeks

Note: Exams begin on Monday, September 29 (two days after lectures end)

During the examination period:

• All registered courses will have final examinations
• Examination timetables will be published in advance
• No lectures or academic activities during exams
• Strict examination rules and conduct apply
• Results processing begins after exams conclude

Understanding the Timeline

12-Week Lecture Period

With lectures from July 7 to September 27:

• You have approximately 12 weeks of teaching
• This is standard for Nigerian university semesters
• Enough time to cover syllabus if you stay consistent
• Missing even one week significantly impacts understanding

4-Week Examination Period

From September 29 to October 25:

• Allows time for all departments to schedule exams
• Your exams may be spread across the period
• Some weeks may have multiple exams, others none
• Plan study time around your specific exam dates

Important Considerations

Late Resumption Consequences

If you resume late:

• You'll miss foundational lectures
• Catching up becomes very difficult
• Attendance percentage may fall below 75%
• Risk being barred from examinations
• May affect understanding and performance

Course Registration

• Ensure you register before July 7
• Late registration may attract penalties
• You cannot write exams for unregistered courses
• Verify your registration is complete and courses appear on portal

Financial Obligations

• Clear all school fees before resumption
• Unpaid fees may prevent course registration
• Outstanding fees can lead to exam barring
• Check for deadlines on school fees payment
