According to Leadership Newspapers, UNIJOS in partnership with ABU Zaria and their United States partners, Harvard School Of Public Health and Northwestern University have received a major training and research grant from the Fogarty International Centre of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the USA.
The vice chancellor of UNIJOS, Professor Hayward Mafuyai made this known during a media briefing in Jos. Mafuyai stated that the office of the director, NIH is partnering with the National Institute of Nursing Research, National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke and the Fogarty International Centre to support the four institutions with $640.000 over five years to increase the research capacities of junior faculty in the University of Jos and the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
Mafuyai in company of Prof Phyllis Kanki from Harvard School of Public health, USA and Prof Robert Murphy of Northwestern University, USA said the support of training and mentoring in Nigeria for Academics (STAMMINA) will help energise research training programmes for junior faculty at the University of Jos and Ahmadu Bello University by increasing their capacity to participate in carrying out locally relevant research that contribute to improve human health and to foster the next generation of faculty researchers in Nigeria.
