No More NYSC For Medical Graduates Who Don’t Have Practicing Licenses
The Nigerian Federal Government has reached a consensus disallowing medical graduates to participate in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme when they have not been certified as medical doctors with practice licenses from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
This decision, according to the FG is to eradicate all fakes who infiltrate in the medical practice in Nigeria.
As was expected, this followed complaints over the level of quackery displayed by some of the NYSC Youth Corps members posted mostly to rural areas to provide medical services there.
It was disclosed by the Registrar/Chief Executive of MDCN, Dr. Abdulmumini Ibrahim during a press briefing on Monday in Abuja.
“There has been increasing number of personal non-grata people who are not trained impersonating as medical doctor. The NYSC has inundated us with complaints. Those who have completed their one year internship have been given certificates. Most corpers are sent to rural areas. They can only go to service upon presentation of their practice license”, he said.
