As a foremost state University in Nigeria founded in 1981, Abia State University has maintained its leadership within and beyond the Eastern heartlands of Nigeria. The University is located in Uturu at Longitude 5o42’N and Latitude 6o48’E on an average elevation of 450m. It is accessible to three International airports: The Port Harcourt International Airport with a driving time of about two and half hours, Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu with about two hours driving time, and Dr. Sam Mbakwe International Airport, Owerri with about two hours driving time.

The University accepts partnership with institutions, governments, and private sector in broad areas ofscience and technology (including the Geographic Information Systems), Law, Education, Social science and the Humanities.

History of ABSU

Abia State University is one of the state owned universities in Nigeria.And best state university in nigeria These stateacademic institutions were created to expand admissions and bring professional skills, expertise and modern researchfacilities close to the city and rural dwellers; and have helped talented students to obtain Higher education.

The inception of the university was in 1981 in the former Imo State under the name of Imo State University, Uturu, Okigwe. The university was established by Sam Mbakwe when he was Governor of old Imo State. Following the creation of Abia State in 1991, the Uturu campus of the University was ceded to Abia State; and is now known as Abia State University Uturu, Isuikwuato Local Government Area, Abia State, Nigeria. The university is organized in colleges and schools having been founded on the same collegiate system operated by University of Nebraska.

Abia State University offers undergraduate, graduate and doctorate degree; and has two campuses with its main campus located in Uturu while its College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine is housed by the campus in Umuahia, Abia State capital.
