The School of Nursing and Midwifery undertake innovative research to develop knowledge, evaluate effectiveness and implement change in healthcare through interventions, treatments and knowledge to transform and shape policy and practice in three key areas:
- Safety and quality of healthcare
- Improving outcomes for adults with chronic health conditions
- Childbearing, children and young people
The School invites applications for PhD scholarships that align with our priority research areas. The School of Nursing and Midwifery PhD Scholarships are to be taken up between January to June 2017

Value of Scholarship
The School of Nursing and Midwifery PhD Scholarships:
Amount: Currently $27,000 AUD per annum
Frequency: Fortnightly
Method: EFT
Tenure: 3 years with a possible 6 month extension.
Eligibility Criteria
Successful applicants typically have first class honours (H1) or have completed a Master degree by research with additional research output such as research publications and/or successful research grant applications and research experience.
The successful applicant is expected to demonstrate personal attributes that are congruent with the University’s values of Integrity, Respect, Rational Inquiry andPersonal Excellence.
Applicants must not have completed an Australian Research Doctorate Degree or equivalent.
International Scholarship Applicants
Applicants must:
- Meet international student visa requirements as specified by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship
- Have been made an unconditional offer of a place in a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
- Not be currently receiving a scholarship provided by the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID)

How to Apply
- Applicants intending to apply for Scholarship should use the Expression of Interest form to determine if they will be invited to apply at least four weeks before the Scholarship due date.
- Before you apply for a scholarship, you must apply for admission into a Higher Degree by Research course. Only applicants with a course offer will be considered for Scholarship.
- We encourage all applicants to read the Scholarship Conditions (PDF) to understand the requirements on them as scholarship recipients
- Complete the Scholarship Application (.DOC) , including:
- Outline of your research topic
- Information on your research publications or research grants you have received: Documenting Your Research Experience (PDF)
- Academic Referees to support your scholarship application, using the PG Academic Referee Report (.PDF)
