Summary

KWASU warns against fake social media accounts impersonating Vice-Chancellor Prof. Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh. Fraudsters using his name and photo to scam students. Don't engage or send money.

Kwara State University has issued an urgent warning about fraudulent social media accounts impersonating Vice-Chancellor Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh. Students and the public should avoid engaging with these fake accounts.

The Scam

Fraudsters have created multiple social media accounts using the Vice-Chancellor's name and photograph. These fake accounts are:

  • Initiating unsolicited chats with students and the public
  • Requesting money or personal information
  • Making false promises about admissions or academic matters
  • Attempting to defraud unsuspecting individuals

KWASU's Official Position

The university states clearly: All social media accounts bearing the VC's name and picture were created by fraudsters to mislead and defraud the public.

KWASU emphasizes that anyone who chats, engages, or transacts with these fake accounts does so at their own risk. Neither the Vice-Chancellor nor the university will be held liable for any financial losses or other damages resulting from these scams.

How to Protect Yourself

Red Flags to Watch For:

  • Unsolicited messages from "university officials" on social media
  • Requests for money, bank details, or personal information
  • Promises of admission, scholarships, or special treatment
  • Urgent language pressuring immediate action or payment
  • Poor grammar or unprofessional communication

What You Should Do:

  1. Never send money to anyone claiming to be a university official on social media
  2. Don't share personal information, bank details, or BVN
  3. Block and report suspicious accounts immediately
  4. Verify any university communication through official channels

Official KWASU Communication Channels

For authentic information about admissions, fees, or other university matters:

  • Visit KWASU's official website
  • Call the university's published phone lines
  • Visit the campus in person
  • Check official KWASU social media pages with verified badges

Never trust direct messages from individuals claiming to represent the university, even if they use official names and photos.

Report Suspected Fraud

If you encounter suspicious accounts or have been targeted by scammers impersonating KWASU officials, report to the university's security department and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
