NECO SSCE 2026 Internal Registration: NIN, Fees, CBE and Deadline
Summary
NECO SSCE 2026 internal registration has updated rules for NIN, NLIN, biometrics, fees and dual CBE/PPE format. Use this checklist before May 29.
NECO SSCE 2026 Internal Registration: NIN, Fees, CBE and Deadline
NECO SSCE 2026 internal registration is no longer just a deadline notice. The official 2026 registration guideline adds details that schools, parents and SS3 candidates should check carefully: NIN is compulsory, candidates will receive an NLIN, registration uses offline and online steps, and the examination will run in dual mode with hybrid Computer Based Examination (CBE) and Pen and Paper Examination (PPE).
The normal registration deadline is Monday, 25 May 2026. Late registration runs from Tuesday, 26 May to Friday, 29 May 2026, and NECO says the website will close at 11:59 pm on Friday, 29 May 2026. The official guideline is available as a PDF on the NECO website: NECO 2026 SSCE Internal Registration Guidelines.
NECO SSCE 2026 Registration Dates
| Item | Date |
|---|---|
| Registration starts | Monday, 19 January 2026 |
| Normal registration closes | Monday, 25 May 2026 |
| Late registration period | Tuesday, 26 May to Friday, 29 May 2026 |
| Final portal closure | 11:59 pm, Friday, 29 May 2026 |

NECO states that schools should strictly follow these dates because there will be no extension. Any payment made after registration closes with an already generated RRR e-invoice will not be entertained or refunded.
Who Can Register for the 2026 SSCE Internal?
The 2026 NECO SSCE Internal is for school-based candidates in their final year of senior secondary school, which means SS3 candidates in Nigeria and overseas. It is not for private candidates.
NECO also says admission or transfer of candidates into SS3 across schools is prohibited for this registration. Schools should treat that point seriously because the registration guideline places responsibility on principals, commandants and state education authorities to enforce eligibility.
Important Changes Schools and Parents Should Note
- NIN is compulsory: Every candidate is expected to have a valid National Identification Number.
- NLIN will be issued: NECO says all candidates will be issued a unique National Learners Identification Number for the examination.
- The exam will be dual mode: NECO describes the 2026 SSCE Internal as hybrid CBE and PPE. Schools that will be assessed through CBE and PPE are to be notified before the examination.
- Registration is offline and online: Schools enter candidate data offline, then upload it online after payment to obtain registration numbers.
- Biometrics matter: Candidates must capture their own ten fingers. NECO says duplicate registration will not be entertained because each candidate's biometric data is unique.
- Photocard is mandatory: Every candidate must have the final photocard bearing the registration number for identification during the examination.
NECO SSCE 2026 Registration Fees
The official guideline lists the following fees and materials:
- Registration fee: N30,000 per candidate, inclusive of Four-Figure Mathematical Tables and Waterproof Certificate Jacket/Folder.
- Photo Album: N2,700 per pair.
- Syllabus: N2,000 per copy.
- Unviable Centre Fee: N70,000 where a school has fewer than 20 candidates and still wants to take the examination in its school.
- Late registration penalty: additional N5,000 per candidate.
Stamp duty, service and Remita charges may also apply. NECO says registration fees are non-refundable once paid.
School Registration Checklist
Schools should not wait until the final week. A safer process is to complete candidate data entry, validation and payment early enough to fix errors before upload.
- Use the school login details or reclaim the centre through the official NECO process if access is lost.
- Install the 2026 SSCE Internal offline application from the NECO SSCE Internal page.
- Enter each candidate's biodata, including NIN.
- Capture passport photographs in school uniform.
- Capture the candidate's ten fingerprints with the approved scanner.
- Print offline photocards and validation lists for candidates to check and sign.
- Submit required validation documents to the State Coordinator for school activation.
- Pay through the NECO portal using Remita and verify the payment with the 12-digit RRR.
- Upload candidate records online and confirm that registration numbers are generated.
- Print final photocards and keep them available for candidates before the examination.
Parent and Candidate Checklist
Parents may not control the school portal, but they can still prevent costly mistakes. Before the school uploads final details, candidates should check:
- NIN
- Name arrangement and spelling
- Passport photograph
- Date of birth
- Gender
- Subject combination
- State of origin
- Local government area
NECO says it is not liable for registration errors committed by schools. Those errors should be corrected during validation before the data is uploaded online. Passport photograph changes can only be made before the end of the registration period.
What Dual CBE and PPE Means for Candidates
NECO's guideline says the examination will run in dual mode, comprising hybrid CBE and PPE. This does not mean every candidate should assume the same format. Schools that will be assessed through CBE and PPE are to be notified before the examination, and schools with CBE facilities are expected to meet the requirements hosted on the NECO portal.
For students, the practical response is simple: keep studying your subjects, but also build basic computer confidence. Learn how to use a mouse, read questions on screen, manage time on a digital interface and avoid careless clicking. Even if your centre uses paper for some parts, computer-based testing is becoming more common across Nigerian examinations.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Waiting until late registration before starting the process.
- Registering a candidate without confirming the NIN.
- Uploading data before the candidate checks the name, date of birth, photo and subjects.
- Allowing anyone else to capture fingerprints for a candidate.
- Generating an RRR and trying to pay after the portal has closed.
- Forgetting that the final photocard is mandatory for exam identification.
Where to Get Help
NECO advises schools to contact their State Coordinator for clarification. The official support emails listed in the guideline are [email protected] and [email protected]. The listed helplines are 08027597699, 09032224473, 08069232760, 08189342653 and 08189342754.
The safest approach is to treat the May 25 normal deadline as the real deadline. Late registration exists, but it costs more and leaves very little time to correct mistakes.
