ABSU SUG Update: VC to Ask Senate to Reopen Course Registration Portal for Affected Graduates

Published: 23 April 2026

The Students’ Union Government (SUG) at Abia State University (ABSU) says the SUG President, Comr. Ugoani Emmanuel, met with the Vice‑Chancellor, Prof. Ndukwe Okeudo, to press for reopening the course registration portal for graduates who were unable to complete registration.

According to the SUG, the Vice‑Chancellor has agreed to table a proposal to reopen the portal for a period of three (3) months at the Senate meeting scheduled for Wednesday, 29 April 2026. The SUG urges affected students to remain calm while the proposal is considered and promises further updates when available.

Who this affects

This update is for ABSU graduates who have completed their programmes but were unable to finalise course registration before the portal closed. If you have outstanding course registrations or incomplete portal actions linked to graduation, this notice is relevant to you.

Practical steps for affected graduates

While waiting for the outcome of the Senate meeting and any official portal reopening, take these practical steps to speed up your completion once the portal is available:

  1. Gather key documents: your school ID, provisional result or statement of result, any graduation clearance documents, and proof of payment of any required fees. Keep both digital and printed copies.
  2. Check your student email and official ABSU channels regularly: announcements about portal reopening, deadlines and required actions are most likely to appear there. Follow faculty noticeboards and departmental offices.
  3. Clear outstanding obligations: confirm with your department, faculty and the bursary/registry that you have no pending dues or clearances that could block registration.
  4. Prepare course/registration information: list the exact courses or registration items you still need to complete so you can act quickly once the portal opens.
  5. Keep contact details ready: note the names and offices of your departmental officer, faculty officer, or student affairs contact so you can follow up in person or by phone when necessary.
  6. Document all communications: keep records (dates, names, photocopies) of meetings, emails and receipts in case you need to escalate or provide proof of attempts to comply.

How to act when the portal reopens

  • Log in early to avoid rush and possible technical problems.
  • Register the exact courses you have prepared for and double‑check selections before submitting.
  • Make and keep receipts of any payments related to registration.
  • If you encounter errors, contact the registry/ICT unit immediately and follow up in writing.

Follow up and escalation

If you believe your case requires special attention, raise the issue through your department or faculty officers and the SUG. Keep requests respectful and factual, with all supporting documents attached or ready for inspection.

The SUG has pledged to continue representing students’ interests. Affected graduates should monitor official ABSU communication channels for the formal announcement and any further instructions.

Stay calm, prepare your documents, and be ready to act promptly when the portal reopens.
