Public Schools in Zamfara and Sokoto Fails to Register Candidates for WASSCE

Students in public secondary schools in Zamfara and Sokoto states will not be sitting for the upcoming West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) slated to hold between May 9th to June 24, 2022, over the failure of the schools to register candidates for the examinations.

The head of the Nigeria National Office of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Mr. Patrick Areghan made the announcement on Monday, May 9, while addressing newsmen on the council’s preparations and readiness for the conduct of the examination in Nigeria.

According to Areghan, while private secondary schools in the states had field candidates for the exams, government secondary schools did not register any candidates. He stated that the reasons for the development were still unknown.

Areghan also noted that though the National Identification Number (NIN) was included as a necessary requirement during registration, it was not a compulsory requirement in order not to disqualify many candidates.
